Abstraction (from the Latin abs, meaning away from and trahere , meaning to draw) is the process of taking away or removing characteristics from something in order to reduce it to a set of essential characteristics. … Abstraction is related to both encapsulation and data hiding.

We don’t emphasize on the forms itself but the essence of the form and mechanics. To make things useful, we layer on top tactics while building up our physical and mental baseline. Our system of self defense is reduced to some simple ideas. Because the ideas are “simple”, it is easy to remember and eventually, everything you do is a manifestation of those fundamental principles.

At the end of the year 2018, most of you submitted a “no blog is a blog”. One of which as follows:

I have a question about conflict resolution for people who are very head strong. Like we were talking about last week, there are some people who you know right away that are very forceful and there are others that are more passive and there are those in the middle. People who are more passive or near the middle are not that big of a threat, not because of their lack of skills, but because they don’t have the the mindset to destroy/dominate. In my mind, people who are the most dangerous are those who have the the “destroy” mindset and the determination to follow through with it.
This is the same in everyday life beyond self defense. In a work/school environment, there are members of a group who are more passive/less opinionated are easier to work with and reach a compromise. However, every now and then, you will encounter people who act like a dictator (his way or no way) and allow no room for conversation.

How would you work with people who don’t want to communicate and only want their way done? Whether it is in self defense or in life, how would you deal with these people that are very headstrong?

Exercise
We wrap up the year talking about the 3 principles of self defense. Can you see how you can apply the 3 principles to the everyday life / project situation where the other person doesn’t seem to want to listen at all. The purpose of this exercise is to practice your ability to apply abstract ideas into seemingly unrelated fields.
