Long time ago, I went down to Disney World with a few of my friends from Windsor Ontario. We were still in college and of course short on cash. So instead of taking our time driving down, we did an all-nighter, taking turns driving. After more than twenty hours, we finally arrive at Disney. There were two lanes leading into parking. My friend who was driving was already stressed and tired. I saw the sign “Use both lanes” and gave him a jolt with my elbow. He panic’d, not thinking through what it really means, immediately drove right over the median, occupying BOTH LANES.

English can be imprecise. While you can always terse it up using legal lingual, nobody ever do it day-to-day. There are often gaps between intent versus interpretation. Therefore authors often get other people to do proof reading.

One of the challenges as a new student or when you are communicating with people from the outside is whether you are even using the same terminology to mean the same thing. For example, keep your knees straight to a rhythmic gymnasts is all the way to the locked position, not just relatively straight. Straight arms for a punch is simply reasonably straight without getting into a locked or hyper-extended position.

Technical difficulties for gymnasts/dancers is hard work but very tangible and therefore easy to learn. For two dancers (or gymnasts) having similar technical abilties but somehow feels different. Most audiences can feel the difference but find it hard to describe what makes one better than the other. For those that manage to describe it, it often come as “Her performance touched me in a special way”, “you can really feel her presence”, “I really enjoyed how she flow from one element to another…so seamless and effortless”, “It seems like she is feeling through every move to the finest details…fingers, head tilt, eyes”.

Similarly, in martial arts, the basics of strikes, posture, physical conditioning and form require a lot of work but manageable – JUST DO IT. However, for mindset, skills and tactics, you have to go beyond what is visible (口傳心授). The instructor must have it and be willing to explain; using words and examples that the student can understand, describing it in layers to manage complexity. The student must also have an open / sensitive enough mind to learn through his own crtical thinking, feel and touch – something that books/videos cannot match.

Exercise
Every blog post has a specific intent. You cannot experience it without being involved. There are lots of textbook and videos out there that you can imitate or copy from but to really learn at a different level, you have to be engaged and do you homework.

What is LHBF martialgym, martialgym versus LHBF? Define the differences if any. Like any other task, think of the process of how you are going to tackle this.
