A drop of black paint into a bucket of white paint may not be easily noticeable, however, the impact / change is there. Likewise, we may not notice the impact we have on our surroundings but it exists.
In the past, organizations (and hence relationships) tend to be hierachical. Employees are suppose to follow instructions. Similarly, in the past, the father is the head of the family and the rest of the family follow suit. A very similar mentality still exists in many martial art schools.
Nowdays, most successful corporations actively seek input and viewpoints from their employees. Reality shows like “Undercover boss” often highlight disonnects of management to the reality of operations. However, the discovery of this gap do lead to positive changes. Nowadays, employees from successful corporations understand the company’s vision AND they feel empowered to make recommendations and adaptations where necessary.
Science fiction writer may not have the means to actually create some of the gadgets they talked about. However, their imaginationation may have inspired some scientists to pursue along that line of thought and eventually make fantasy a reality. Just like fifty years ago, nobody imagined that everyone will be carrying (or wearing) a computer around but that is a reality today.
You do have an impact on people and the environment around everyday in many ways. It may not be apparant or noticeable right away but it is there. Do treasure that power and try to make a positive impact.
