The 3 main internal styles are Hsing I, Baqua and Taichi. They are related and yet with very distinct characteristics. In the past, people have use 3 different types of ball to characterize the essence of each of the styles. They all share the same shape, however, each bear different implications because of its unique character.

  • Solid ball – being solid means that there is more weight. Once set in motion, it will continue its path rolling over/crushing obstacles.
  • Hollow ball – being hollow allows it to protect better what is inside. Furthermore, without the weight behind it, it will yield and spin faster and easier then its solid form.
  • Invisible ball – being invisible and yet still exist means that the ball inside your mind (or your opponent). Furthermore, because it is virtual, it can morph quickly. Since it is virtual, solid physical contact may not even exist.

In liuhebafa, we aim to train on all manifestations of the balls and so it becomes our choice base on situation.
