For self defense, it is important to improve on real measureable assets like physical power, speed, reaction time, etc. However, it is just as important to improve the effectiveness of the assets that you do have.

  • A bicycle can easily outrun a sportcar that is stuck in a traffic jam.
  • Watching TV gives you better viewing angles and replays than being physically at a game.
  • Having self confidence so that you don’t get picked on is often better than having to fight all the bullies.

Obsession with just one or the other is a great formula for disaster in the waiting. Martial artists that neglect physical conditioning will fall in the first real battle. Those that focuses in only on the physical aspect will fall short of maximizing their potential as well.
