July break is about family time, mental break, and time-off for injuries, etc. In relationship to our LHBF MartialGym journey, July is my opportunity to ‘reset and reboot’. Training can get “more-of-the-same” if I don’t consciously push the envelope. Can I explain certain concepts better? how can I create fresh challenges for you? how can I trigger that “Ah-ha” moment in you with better success rate.

Law of inertia means that it takes effort to change the state of a moving / stationary object. This law of physics applies to human behavior too. Most people have a daily routine. These routines can be so precise that you see the same person(s) at the same intersection every day. Habits / patterns are great for general fitness or maintenance. For example, seniors do their walks or their tai-chi every morning, yoga instructors encourage their students to schedule a “quiet” time to practice everyday and it works for them. Therefore, I do encourage you to train daily to improve at a steady pace.

In LHBF, we value creativity and adaptability. To allow yourself to get too much into a groove does not facilitate quantum-leap type of improvement. Disruptions to patterns (planned or unplanned) forces the body and mind to adapt and therefore stimulates improvements. As an example, after stabilizing at 50 push ups, if we just add quantity to 60 to 70, etc. it means that training time must go up until you plateau out. Furthermore, simply piling on numbers can risk overuse and be counter-productive. Change arm/body position, rhythm, etc can make the “same” workout challenging and can produce better result.

I am sure you have personal experience where a disruption actually stimulated improvements. Describe.
