I did not invent the name LiuHeBaFa (LHBF or 六合八法). LHBF is an old system with a long lineage. While we are not limited by our heritage, understanding our roots, what we like to achieve and how we respond and interact with people and things around us can be important.

The name of our style is not named after a person (e.g. Lui Hung, Bak Mei) or a family (e.g. Choi, Lee, Mok, Chu, Hung, etc), a religion (e.g Buddhists, Tibet Lama), an animal (e.g. monkey, tiger, dragon, snake), a type of bird (e.g. white crane, eagle, duck) or a type of insect (e.g. praying mantis). Common within internal styles, the name attempt to highlight the style’s founding beliefs or philosophies (e.g. taichi, i-chuan) and therefore understanding what the name says is important.

LiuHeBaFa is a compound name with two parts: Liu He (六合) highlights our desire to harmonize / integrate six key components of a person’s universe. Ba Fa(八法) describes the eight principles/methods of delivery. If it helps, you may want to think of Liu He as the constitution at a 30,000 feet level and Ba Fa as the governing laws and principles to adhere to for techniques or flows.

For your reference, the six harmonies 六合:
體合于心 (Pinyin: tǐhéyúxīn) Body and Mind Combine
心合于意 (xīnhéyúyì) Mind and Intent Combine
意合于氣 (yìhéyúqì) Intent and Chi Combine
氣合于神 (qìhéyúshén) Chi and Spirit Combine
神合于動 (shénhéyúdòng) Spirit and Movement Combine
動合于空 (dònghéyúkōng) Movement and Emptiness Combine

Eight Methods
