When people talk about furniture, they often think of the features, looks and primary material like the quality of wood. Sales people talk about the price. Yes, all those considerations are important but if a piece of furniture needs to be self-assembled, if you are short even one bolt, the whole piece may not work. Furthermore, a piece of furniture that is ‘cheaply connected’ tend to fall apart quickly. Ultimately, all things fall apart at the weakest link.

For rhythmic gymnastics, skills are important because that is how you get your primary scores. However, the flow between skills, the connection between the performer, apparatus, music and ultimately the audience are the essence of a top level performance.

What is best in one sport may be totally irrelevant in another. A lot of people think martial arts are like performance gymnastics because of the word ‘art’. Some may think street self-defense is similar enough to combat sport but it can be very different. Furthermore, as a professional fighter, you must also be an entertainer. Without the possibility of ticket sales, you are not going to get to fight at the top level. Ultimately, the league has to make money to pay the fighters.
