Newton’s inspiration from an apple (Newton’s law and gravity), Archimedes from his bath (Eureka) and many more are ideas that are triggered from seemingly unrelated events.

The ability to crossover from seemingly unrelated objects/ideas and apply it in new ways are referred to as lateral/creative thinking. If you use objects in new ways, it is called re-purposing. In fact, some fighting strategies/styles are inspired from watching animals hunting.

Most successful people are not Einsteins but simply people who are specialists in learning and applying what works. For some, it may be a “natural gift” but it is something that can be trained and improved. To be able to take that leap, you will need to understand the why/how something works and what are the key make-or-break success factors.

To embrace the physical principles and mechanics that works, you have to practice seeing it in other than just fighting. Once you get into that frame of mind or habit, you have the ability to train anywhere/anytime; the applying of those principles will become second nature.

Exercise
We are currently in the month of throws and trips. Find things around you that reinforces your understanding of balance, its physics and how you can make use of those facts. One or two examples with link to images/videos would be awesome.

If you really cannot find anything, try this one. Think what you learn from trying to tip this over. (You still need to find another one if you use this one).
